MT1 (Melanotan 1) is a research-grade synthetic analog of alpha-melanocyte-stimulating hormone (α-MSH), studied for its effects on skin pigmentation, photoprotection, and melanocortin receptor signaling in dermatologic and neurobiological models. By acting primarily at the melanocortin-1 receptor (MC1R), MT1 is used to investigate controlled eumelanin production and downstream antioxidant and anti-inflammatory pathways.
Pigmentation and Photoprotection
Enhances eumelanin synthesis in melanocytes, supporting darker, more UV-resistant pigmentation and reduced UV-induced erythema and DNA damage in experimental models.
Used to study management of photosensitivity conditions and actinic damage risk by increasing epidermal melanin and improving cutaneous redox balance.
Anti-inflammatory and Neuroprotective Research
MC1R and related melanocortin receptor activation by MT1 has been linked to reduced expression of pro-inflammatory cytokines and matrix remodeling factors in dermal and hepatic cell models.corepeptides+1
Preclinical work suggests possible benefits for neuroinflammation, astrocyte function, and amyloid-related pathology, making MT1 of interest in cognitive and neurodegenerative research paradigms.biotechpeptides+2
